Sam Allardyce warns West Brom he won’t leave unless sacked

Sam Allardyce says he won’t be walking out on West Brom this season unless he is sacked.

Alardyce was drafted in to save the club from relegation from the Premier League in December but results have been…mixed. While recent wins over Chelsea and West Brom hinted at a stunning revival, he has won just four of his 20 games in charge, and the Baggies sit nine points adrift of safety with five games remaining.

The gap seems insurmountable and looks set to bring an end to Allardyce’s record of never having been relegated from the top flight as a manager. But he says he won’t be leaving the club between now and the summer – unless they sack him.

He told Sky Sports: “We will see it to the end of the season no matter what, the only way you are getting me out of here is if you sack me.”

There has been a mild improvement in the Baggies since Allardyce took over, with January signings Okay Yokuslu and Mbaye Diagne making a significant impact. The manager acknowledges that they have a lot of work to do if they are to stay up, but he reckons there is little more he could have done.

“I thought we changed as much as we could as quickly as we possibly could,” Allardyce went on.

“We did better business in the Premier League than any other club in January with the quality of the players, the price and the difference they have made to the team.

“While we said a few more games or a bit more time might have been needed, we didn’t really need it because when I look back prior to us winning against Chelsea and Southampton, we should have won three or four games prior to that.

“We did have enough time, we just failed to take the clear-cut chances we created. It’s not so much me, it’s more about the club. I’d love to be sitting here with more points on the board.

“We’d have liked to have given ourselves a better chance. I’d be disappointed if we went down with my record of keeping clubs up but the lads have tried their best up until now. We might fall short but it hasn’t been for the want of trying.”
