A fearless young boy attempted to shield his sister from bullets fired at them by their twisted father, an inquest heard.
Siblings Jack Edwards, 15, and Jennifer, 13, were mercilessly killed by their dad John at the family home near Sydney, Australia.
An inquest in the 2018 attack heard how the children’s mother Olga had just commenced family court proceeding against her former partner.
He showered the teenagers with an entire round from his Glock pistol as they tried to escape, the hearing into their tragic deaths heard.
The inquest was told that Jack crouched under a desk, attempting to shield his younger sister’s body from the bullets.
The family had been in hiding after legal proceedings against the abusive dad were launched, news.com.au reports.
A New South Wales coroner heard how monster John Edwards tracked his family down and “carefully and meticulously” planned his attack.
The evil father emptied two rounds of bullets into his children, the shocked court was informed.
He turned another gun on himself at his home in nearby Normanhurst around an hour later.
Devastated mother Olga took her own life six months later.
State Coroner Teresa O’Sullivan detailed the devastating moment Jack cowered under his desk before trying to save his terrified sister Jennifer.
She blamed the NSW Police, the family court and the state’s firearm registry.
“It is difficult to imagine the pain that Olga felt when she returned home that night,” Coroner O’Sullivan said.
“To find police at her home and learn that her two children, who she loved dearly, had been killed.”
Both the guns the father had used to commit murder his children and kill himself had been legally obtained from St Mary Pistol Club.
Court documents revealed Jack slept with a cricket bat because he was so fearful of an attack.
The inquest continues.
