Mum’s LinkedIn before-and-after Covid profile photo goes viral as so many relate

A mum has shared her before-and-after-Covid profile photos on LinkedIn and her honest post has been shared more than 800,000 times.

Lauren Griffiths changed her picture from a suited, smart and serious-faced woman with a sharp bobbed haircut and barely a smile to a more relaxed, as she calls “slightly frazzled”, smiling woman wearing a hoody with her hair wavy, long and relaxed.

The mum-of-three wrote about why she had changed the image the world sees, and explained the woman in the first picture is simply “not who I am right now”.

Lauren, who is mum to a seven, five, and two-year-old, said she felt her picture should reflect life now she is working from home and juggling family life, the Daily Record reports.

The human resources consultant from North Carolina, in the USA said: “Recently, I took a long hard look at my LinkedIn profile photo – the woman staring back at me had newly highlighted hair and a fresh cut, a pressed blazer, a hint of a smile that showed just the right amount of teeth to let you know she was serious but could be lighthearted when needed.

“I remember standing in my power pose as my husband snapped the photos.

“We poured through about 80 shots before we found the one that looked perfectly polished.

“But the person I was exuding then is not always who I am, and certainly, not who I am right now.

“Today’s remote world has blurred the lines between my professional and personal selves, so I’ve chosen to represent that in my photo.

“Barely dried hair, comfy pullover, ripped jeans – slightly frazzled from having just gotten 3 kids ready for “school” – but smiling and ready for work.

“I’ve witnessed and read enough on authentic leadership to know that being genuine and vulnerable will get you a lot farther in your career than a glossy headshot.”

Within days of sharing her before and after pictures, Lauren’s honest post went viral gaining more than 26,000 comments from people who could relate to juggling remote working and family life.

One said: “This is so real.”

Another said: “The photo on the right seems so much more human than the other one. It gives off a more approachable and amiable attitude.

“I’m about to get ready for work in my nicest most comfy leisure wear outfit and go be the same hardcore teammate, leader, VP I was before this madness. The clothes, the hair do not define us or our abilities,” added another.
